Reisebericht – Große wirtschaftsgeographische Exkursion in Barcelona und Madrid (Sommersemester 2023)

Travel Report - Major Economic Geography Excursion in Barcelona and Madrid (Summer Semester 2023)

From 03.09.2023 to 10.09.2023, the Institute of Economic and Cultural Geography visited the Spanish metropolises and economic centres of Barcelona [BCN] and Madrid [MAD] with Leon Worbs and Chris Brück and a group of 25 students as part of the module "One-week excursion in economic geography" in order to discuss economic geography content from the Bachelor's degree programme in practice and to open up new topic areas.

During a total of nine excursion dates, practical insights were given into various economic geography areas, which were subsequently reflected on in detail in valuable discussions, including:

  • Sustainable and Future Mobility:
Carnet [BCN]; Bax & Company [BCN],
  • Tourism management and sustainable tourism design:
Barcelona City and Province Tourism Authority (Ayuntamiento de Barcelona - Dirección de Turismo [BCN]; Disputación de Barcelona - Oficina Técnica de Turismo [BCN]); Hostal Grau [BCN]; United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) [MAD],
  • International Logistics and Sea Freight:
    Kuehne + Nagel [BCN],
  • Business development and location marketing:
German Chamber of Commerce (AHK) for Spain [MAD]; Invest in Madrid [MAD],
  • Sustainable urban development:
Crea Madrid Nuevo Norte (CreaMNN) [MAD]

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the meeting partners once again for the opportunity to exchange with them and learn from their practical and personal experiences. We very much appreciated the friendly and open exchange as well as the possibility to hold all meetings in English.

A big thank you also goes to the participating students who made the success of this excursion possible through their high willingness to participate and their high-quality contributions.
