Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM): Launch of the first European Regional Report

The GEM, the largest and oldest international research consortium for empirical entrepreneurship research, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For the first time, a publication of GEM, which mainly examines the differences between entire countries in its annual surveys, is dedicated to interregional disparities in entrepreneurship frequencies and attitudes. Rolf Sternberg, who has led the German GEM country team since the beginning of the GEM, is one of the three authors of this report, which was produced with financial support from Shopify. It shows that the interregional differences within and across countries are considerable in some cases. They can also be observed in Germany, but are lower for most indicators than within other large European countries. The report covers 226 European regions and 28 European countries and uses annual pooled GEM data, for most indicators for the years 2015-2021.
