The Institute of Economic and Cultural Geography (IWKG) is pleased to congratulate its PhD student Lennart Schott on being honored with the second-place finalist position in the PhD Best Paper Award at the prestigious Geography of Innovation (GEOINNO) Conference 2024. Hosted at the University of Manchester (UK) from January 10 to 12, the GEOINNO serves as the leading forum for scholars to engage in discussions on issues related to the spatial dimension of innovation activities. His research on the standardization gap and collaboration in global standards developing organizations in times of technological shifts, co-authored with Rudi Bekkers (Eindhoven University of Technology) and Kerstin J. Schaefer (Utrecht University & IWKG), offers a cutting-edge analysis of technical standards in the context of the economic geography discourse. The award committee lauded the paper for its novel and sophisticated approach in data collection and analysis, notably for its compelling demonstration of how the spatial implications of technical standards are intricately linked with geographical disparities.
The research results in part from projects funded by the Leibniz Young Investigator Grant and the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture (MWK). Furthermore, the LUH Graduate Academy funded a research stay of Lennart Schott at the Eindhoven University of Technology, which significantly facilitated the work that led to this recognition. We gratefully acknowledge the support of these organizations and their contribution to this successful endeavor.
The IWKG also extends its congratulations to fellow awardees Gabriele Piazza (London School of Economics) and Ariane Reyns (Université libre de Bruxelles) for their outstanding contributions to the field!
