In a new article published in Entrepreneurship Education & Pedagogy, Lennard Stolz and Rolf Sternberg analyze the influence of prior experience on the learning effects of start-up competitions for their participants. Based on qualitative interviews with participants of two start-up competitions, the authors apply a fuzzy-sets qualitative comparative analysis. This method allows for systematically analyzing different characteristics of the participants. The findings show that participants with prior entrepreneurial experiences profit less from the participation than participants without such experiences. Different types of prior experiences are analyzed in detail and combined to gain deeper insights. Implications for future participants, organizers of competitions, and policy are derived.
