Which role do Startup Competitions play in entrepreneurial ecosystems, and thus contribute to regional economic development? This question is discussed by Lennard Stolz in his current conceptual paper that is published in the Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsgeographie. The paper wraps up previous findings in the research fields of startup competitions and entrepreneurial ecosystems and synthesizes them in a new conceptual framework. It is shown, that next to the known effects on entrepreneurs, also complex interdependencies with systemic framework conditions in the regions can take place. The latter have not been analyzed yet and provide an suitable starting point for further research on that topic.

From September 28 to October 2, the 24th G-Forum took place. The conference that is held by the Förderkreis Gründungs-Forschung e.V. is the most important conference on the topics of entrepreneurship and SMEs in the German-speaking area, with over 600 participants.

Lennard Stolz presented the findings of his current paper “Startup Competitions and their Role in Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: A Conceptual Attempt”, which is published in the Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsgeographie. He discussed the implications it has for research on startup competitions and gave an outlook on further research on that topic. A particular focus was made on the empirical applicability with case studies, which are used in further papers in his scientific work.
