A survey in the Hannover region shows that younger respondents in particular (especially students) refrained from mobility during the first wave of the pandemic in the spring and summer of 2020, closely followed by the group of mothers with academic degrees surveyed. However, women without degrees and without children remained highly mobile during the crisis. Spatially, differentiated insights also emerge from our survey, as mobility behavior shows significant differences in the city of Hannover and in neighboring municipalities.

Mobility was particularly reduced in the surrounding municipalities. Dr. Leonie Tuitjer and Dr. Kerstin J. Schaefer presented these and other findings at the Digital TRUST Lectures on Spatial Transformation and at the Digital Colloquium: Sociological Perspectives on the Corona Crisis of the Social Science Research Center Berlin. The podcast of the science colloquium is freely available.
