Kerstin Nolte will take on the assistant professorship in empirical economic geography at the Institute of Economic and Cultural Geography at the University of Hannover in the winter term 2018/19. Kerstin Nolte is an economic geographer and development economist. Until recently, she was a research fellow at the Institute of African Affairs at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies in Hamburg. During this time, she conducted field research in Kenya, Mali and Zambia and was recently a guest researcher at the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan in the USA. In her PhD at the University of Göttingen, Kerstin Nolte researched large-scale agricultural investments in sub-Saharan Africa. Her current research focuses on geographical development studies, in particular the socio-economic consequences of transformations in rural areas in sub-Saharan Africa. Her academic results were published in international journals such as the Journal of Economic Geography, World Development and Land Use Policy. Over the last years, Kerstin Nolte has also engaged in policy advice activities and collaborated on the Land Matrix.
