The paper “Exploring the variances of climate change opinions in Germany at a fine-grained local scale” by Lars Mewes, Leonie Tuitjer and Peter Dirksmeier analyses the small-scale distribution of climate change attitudes in Germany. To date, there has been no analysis of the distribution and influencing factors of climate change attitudes at municipal level in Germany. The article shows considerable and systematic differences in public opinion on climate change, which are clearly differentiated between urban and rural as well as prosperous and shrinking areas. In addition to geographical characteristics, more complex historical and cultural differences between communities in different regions of Germany play an important role. The article has been published in the renowned journal Nature Communications.
