3rd Annual Meeting YEGN (Young Economic Geographers Network): New scientific presentations

The Young Economic Geographers Network (YEGN) invited for the third annual workshop between July 20 and 22 in Lindlar. Last year, the workshop was organized by Kerstin J. Schäfer, Timo Kleiner, and Lars Mewes. This time, the venue was located in the rural suburbs of Cologne. YEGN offers PhD students the great opportunity to present their works among peers in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. In her presentation "Offshore experts and global knowledge flows" Kerstin J. Schäfer emphasized the role of offshore experts as knowledge sources and door-openers for the global catch-up process of the Chinese telecommunication manufacturer Huawei Technologies. The presentation by Timo Kleiner titled “The Impact of Awareness for Innovation on Innovation Success in Istanbul – A comparison between Local Turkish Firms and MNEs” discussed the influence of awareness for innovation on innovation success from Turkish as well as Multinational Enterprises in Istanbul. Lars Mewes presented his work on the diffusion of Uber and Airbnb in US American cities. In his presentation “Regional Personality Differences and the Diffusion of Uber and Airbnb” he showed that an open, innovation friendly culture in cities facilitated the diffusion of both platforms. Special thanks goes to Moritz Breul, Thomas Neise, Jöran Wraner, and all the others from the Global South Studies Center in Cologne that organized this great event.
