34th Annual Conference of the AK Industrial Geography: New scientific presentations

Two Econcomic Geographers from Hannover presented their research projects at the 34th Conference of German AK Industriegeographie, which took place in Wiesbaden-Naurod on November 7th and 8th.

Sebastian Losacker presented his project “Environmental Innovation and Regional Lead Markets”. In this presentation, he questions the notion of geography in theoretical foundations of the sustainability transitions literature and provides a regionalized framework, which can be used to study the diffusion of environmental innovations. This conceptual contribution is supported by illustrative evidence from the Shanghai case.

Lennard Stolz presented the current state of his research on the role of startup competitions in entrepreneurial ecosystems. His presentation included the theoretical and empirical foundations of the quality and quantity of entrepreneurial activity in regions and he underlined the importance of well-networked actors for the quality of regional entrepreneurial ecosystems. Furthermore he discussed first insights from his case studies in the regions of Berlin and Hanover which aim to answer the question whether and how startup competitions help entrepreneurs and other actors in the ecosystem to connect.
