The results of the new GEM country report were presented on the 49th floor of the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt on July 1. There was good news for the more than 200 participants: at 9.8%, the start-up rate in Germany is at its highest level since the survey began in 1999.
Together with colleagues from the RKW Competence Center, Christian Hundt (LUH, Thünen Institute) presented the new Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Country Report Germany in Frankfurt am Main on July 1.
The most important and encouraging result of this international comparative start-up study: the start-up rate in Germany reached an all-time high of 9.8% in 2024. This continues the positive trend of recent years. The start-up rate rose by 25% compared to the average for 2021, 2022, and 2023. This makes Germany one of the four fastest-growing countries analyzed in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. In an international comparison, Germany now ranks in the middle of the field.
The reasons for this trend and other exciting aspects of start-up activity in Germany, including the characteristics of start-up founders, the quality of start-up-related framework conditions, and urban-rural differences in start-up activity, are discussed in the current GEM country report.
